Re: biographies of Lorca
Thu, April 7, 2005 - 2:10 PMI read the latter, A Dream of Life by LEslie Stainton. This book moved me greatly, and changed the way I understood Lorca's poetry and the poet himself. I could not put it down.
After finishing the last page, I cried (if you've read the entire book including the last page, I'm sure you understand.)
I don't really know how to go about describing the book itself. It's self-explanatory, as a biography, but Stainton does a brilliant job bringing Lorca to life. She is revealing and honest while at the same time respecting Lorca as a person, and not prying too hard on issues that no one intimately understood.
It is a very informative, very rich and very large biography, and I highly recommend it. It brought me much closer to understanding just why Lorca's works called out to me so much.
