I first encountered Lorca in High School Advanced Spanish class - we read the House of Bernada Alba (la Casa del Bernada Alba)in preparation for performing it in our annual theatre group. (can't remember which daughter I played. :-( Made me enjoy was what a dry, castellano-based class, more enjoyable.
I went on to read his poetry senior year, and my first year at Northwestern University where we had a visiting Lorca scholar teaching a seminar.
A few years later I began flamenco dancing and discovered that many of the cante jondo (deep songs) had been written by him! wish I also had a voice worth listening to, so I could take up singing.
Please post your own story. I write in English because I better at it than Spanish. (Although hoping to get my Spanish back up to speed this year.)

Re: How did you first meet Frederico ?
Wed, April 6, 2005 - 2:24 PMI really wish I could remember. My best guess is that I discovered Federico through Salvador Dali. The two of them were friends at one point, sharing artwork and company. I had a book about 5 years ago of Dali's work including a smaller biography, and Federico was mentioned within it. I read a small collection of his poetry online, mostly from Poem of the Deep Song and The Gypsy Ballads, and then went on to buy his biography and massive collected works book.
